Gotta say I agree that Anchorage is quite a unique place and can't be said to resemble any other place in the US. Been to the Glacier Brewhouse several times and every time has been a real pleasure (aside from spending too much money on souvenirs for the family). Hope things are going well for you guys! Say hi sometime Mel!

While a bourbon aged Scotch Ale sounds mighty delightful to me, so does ravioli in a brown butter sauce! FYI, for both Mel and Eric above, I've read about half a dozen brewpubs that have opened in Vegas. What kills me is that my last 2 trips passing through, I went with a group to the Hofbrauhaus, but didn't get to hit a Vegas-themed brewpub.

I second the Gordon Biersch. I used to live in Vegas and enjoyed the GB out there quite a bit. Unfortunately, there's not a lot in the way of local breweries out in Vegas, or at least there wasn't when I lived there in '04.

Like you, I've noticed that a crisp wheat beer tends to be a hit with most of my friends who have said they "don't like beer" It's worth brewing up 10gals to keep a couple of kegs on tap for random potential converts.

If you're ever in Vegas again looking for breweries, I suggest checking out Ellis Island (on Koval which is a street just a block from the strip). They brew a great Oktoberfest and a very decent Stout, and I think it was about a dollar for a 12 oz glass.
